What Is

What Is SUBLOCADE?

SUBLOCADE is an extended-release injection of the drug buprenorphine. This medication is indicated for the treatment of moderate or severe opioid use. While SUBLOCADE isn’t a miracle drug that can immediately get rid of the addiction, it can be used to help patients move forward in their treatment and make it easier for them to continue progressing toward recovery. If you have questions about how SUBLOCADE could be used to help you or a loved one, don’t hesitate to reach out to Quest Recovery in Mount Vernon or Akron today.

How Does It Work?

Unlike other medications that may need to be taken daily, SUBLOCADE is a type of medication that continuously releases throughout an entire month. This extended release medication is injected into the patient in a liquid form. Once SUBLOCADE enters the body, it turns to a solid gel called a depot. This deepo then gradually releases the buprenorphine drug into the body at a controlled rate all month.

Buprenorphine comes in a variety of different forms. However, the daily forms of this drug cannot provide the body with a continuous level of the drug. In fact, with daily medication, the body may experience highs and lows of the amount of buprenorphine in the system. That’s where SUBLOCADE has an advantage. Because this medication is a one-a-month dose, it allows the body to regulate and receive a continuous amount of buprenorphine. As a result, the body can experience the benefits of the medication steadily as opposed to highs and lows.

How It Works
Good Option

Is SUBLOCADE a Good Option for Addiction Treatment?

When you take an opioid, there are certain receptors in your brain that the opioids can attach to, which is what gives you the high that you crave. When you take SUBLOCADE, the medication attaches to the opioid receptors in the brain, which makes it less likely for other opioids to attach. As a result, if you take an opioid, there aren’t any receptors in your brain to accept it, meaning you won’t feel the same rewarding high that you usually do. For this reason, those who take SUBLOCADE are less likely to take opioids while on this medication.
